Aiken is a unique city with many parkways and historic homes. Please visit our wonderful city and enjoy the many things our community has to offer.

The Aiken County Historical Museum has many displays of local artifacts, pictures and stories. They hold several different shows througout the year, including a Quilt Show and the Market Days.

South Boundary    

There is plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities with the O'Dell Weeks Activity Center, Carolina Bay, Hitchcock Woods and the Aiken State Park.  At O'Dell Weeks you will find a walking track, exercise programs, soccer field, tennis and basketball courts.  You can go hiking or horseback riding on the many trails in Hitchcock Woods or stop to enjoy the Sand River, Cathedral Aisle or Bebbington Springs. You can also go golfing at one of the many area golf courses.

            

Aiken is also known for horses.  There are many events that are held annually.  In March there is the Aiken Trials, the Aiken Steeplechase and Polo, together these races are known as the Triple Crown.  Polo is also held almost year round.  In the fall is the Fall Steeplechase.  There are Dressage events and horse camps and things for any level of equestrian pursuits.  The Racing Hall of Fame houses trophies, racing silks and pictures and is located in Hopeland Gardens.

       

Hopeland Gardens is a beautiful place with fountains, ponds and flowers.  During the summer there are outdoor concerts held every week.  Area children can enjoy Storytime in the Gardens. In December Christmas in Hopelands is held, which is a walking tour of Christmas light displays.

        

Many events are held througout the year.  There is the Battle of Aiken, the Lobster Race, Highland Games, Aiken's Makin, St. Mary's Chocolate Festival and the Blessing of the Hounds.  You can also attend many cultural events at the Aiken Community Playhouse, the Aiken Ballet, the Cultural Series at the University of South Carolina at Aiken and the Convocation Center.
